MICROPHLEBECTOMY

What is Microphlebectomy?

Microphlebectomy is a simple, minimally invasive procedure where small incisions (about the size of a pinhead) are made in the skin. Through these tiny openings, varicose veins are removed in small sections, stopping the blood flow in the damaged vein.

This method works really well, especially when done by an experienced Doctor. It leads to better cosmetic results, with less skin discolouration and smoother skin compared to other treatments that use injections (sclerosants) to close the veins.

What to expect post your microphlebectomy?

  • You will be required to wear your medical grade compression stockings for a minimum of one week. For the first four days, you must not take off your compression stockings. This means, even showering in them. The following 3 days, you can take your compression off to shower, but you must wear them during the day. Your Doctor will give you more specific advice on this.

  • Avoid strenuous activities or high-impact workouts for one week after treatment.

  • Give yourself 4-6 weeks before you judge your results, as it can take a bit of time.
