VEIN GLUE TREATMENT
What is Vein Glue treatment?
The application of glue for varicose veins stands as one of the latest and most innovative minimally invasive treatments available. When we refer to ‘glue,’ we are alluding to a medical adhesive known as ‘cyanoacrylate,’ a substance that has been utilized in brain surgery and wound closure for over five decades.
This adhesive is employed to permanently seal either diseased veins or specific segments of a vein. Utilizing ultrasound guidance, the glue is introduced into the vein in small increments. Immediate compression is applied to the vein, facilitating the fusion of its walls. Over time, fibrous tissue develops around the glue, creating a lasting and secure seal.
What to expect during your vein glue procedure?
– Photos of your legs will be taken prior to treatment.
– You will be measured for medical grade compression stockings which must be worn post treatment for up to 7 days.
– With ultrasound guidance, a small amount of ‘glue’ with be injected into the appropriate vein.
– Following the injection, immediate pressure will be applied to the injected site.
What to expect post your vein glue procedure?
– You will be required to wear your medical grade compression stockings for a min of one week. The first 4 days, you must not take off your compression stockings. This means, even showering in them. The following 3 days, you can take your compression off to shower, but you must wear them during the day. You may sleep without your compression if you so desire.
– Avoid excessive sun exposure to treated areas for at least one month after treatment. This can cause hyperpigmentation.
– Avoid strenuous activities or high-impact workouts for one week after treatment.
– DO NOT take any hot baths, showers or sit in any hot tubs for one week after treatment.
