MICROSCLEROTHERAPY
What Is Microsclerotherapy?
Microsclerotherapy is a cosmetic treatment used to remove spider veins, which are tiny red veins that appear on the skin.
These veins are caused by pressure from slightly larger reticular veins, which are blue-green veins just beneath the skin. When reticular veins don’t work properly, they create pressure that leads to spider veins forming.
For the best results, treating these underlying reticular veins is important. If left untreated, new spider veins can form, and issues like "matting" (clusters of tiny veins) can occur. Since spider veins are a chronic condition, new ones may appear over time, so ongoing care may be needed to maintain results.
What to expect during your microsclerotherapy treatment?
Your doctor will employ a syringe-mounted magnifying headpiece, equipped with a polarising LED light, serving as an advanced vein magnification instrument. This innovative tool enables your doctor to pinpoint even the tiniest of delicate spider veins.
The procedure involves the use of minute needles for the direct injection of liquid or foam solution into these minuscule spider veins.
You might experience a brief, mild burning sensation during this process.
What to expect post your microsclerotherapy treatment?
You will need to wear medical-grade compression stockings for a minimum of one week. During the initial four days, it’s important to keep your compression stockings on at all times, even while showering. In the subsequent three days, you can remove the compression stockings for showering but should wear them during the day. Sleeping without compression stockings is permissible if you prefer.
To prevent hyperpigmentation, avoid excessive sun exposure on the treated areas for at least a month after the procedure.
For a week following the treatment, steer clear of strenuous activities and high-impact workouts.
Refrain from hot baths, showers, or hot tubs for a week post-treatment.
Expect your spider veins to initially appear more prominent before improvement becomes noticeable. Allow 4-6 weeks before evaluating the results.
Keep in mind, achieving the desired outcome often requires multiple treatments, as discussed with your doctor.
